Cookie Policy
Effective date: 1 May 2025 · Last updated: 1 May 2025
BuildIQ uses a minimal set of cookies. We do not use advertising, remarketing, or cross-site tracking cookies.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website when you visit it. They allow the website to remember information about your visit — such as whether you are logged in, your language preferences, or how you interacted with the page.
Cookies are stored in your browser and sent back to the originating website (or, for third-party cookies, to a different website) on each subsequent visit. They help websites work correctly and provide a better, more personalised experience.
2. Categories of cookies we use
BuildIQ uses four categories of cookies. Below is a description of each, what they do, and whether they can be disabled.
Essential cookiesAlways active
These cookies are strictly necessary for the BuildIQ platform to function. They enable core functionality such as authenticating your session, protecting against CSRF attacks, and routing requests to the correct server. Essential cookies cannot be disabled — disabling them will prevent you from logging in or using the platform.
- Session authentication (Supabase access and refresh tokens)
- CSRF protection tokens
- Load balancing and infrastructure routing
Functional cookiesCan be disabled
Functional cookies remember your preferences and personalise your experience. They do not track you across sites. You can disable functional cookies in your browser settings — the platform will still work, but your preferences will not be remembered between sessions.
- Language and region preferences
- UI preferences such as sidebar state and colour theme
- Announcement banner and notification dismissal state
- Feature flags and beta feature opt-ins
Analytics cookiesCan be disabled
We use privacy-preserving analytics to understand how the BuildIQ platform and marketing website are used. These cookies collect aggregated, anonymised data about page views and feature usage. They do not track you across other websites or build advertising profiles. You can opt out at any time.
- Page view counts
- Feature usage frequency (aggregated only)
- Session duration (anonymised)
Performance cookiesCan be disabled
These cookies help us measure CDN and content delivery performance to ensure the platform loads quickly for users in different regions. The data is aggregated and not linked to individual users.
We do NOT use advertising cookies, remarketing cookies, or third-party tracking cookies. BuildIQ does not build advertising profiles or share your data with ad networks.
3. Cookies in detail
The following table lists the specific cookies set by BuildIQ:
| Cookie name | Category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| sb-access-token | Essential | Supabase authentication — verifies your identity with each request | Session |
| sb-refresh-token | Essential | Refreshes your authentication session without requiring re-login | 7 days |
| buildiq_website_theme | Functional | Remembers your colour theme preference on the marketing website | 1 year |
| buildiq_announcement | Functional | Stores whether you have dismissed the site announcement banner | 1 year |
| _analytics_session | Analytics | Tracks page views for privacy-preserving usage analytics (no cross-site tracking) | 30 minutes |
4. Third-party cookies
BuildIQ uses a very limited number of third-party cookies:
- Stripe — Stripe may set cookies during the payment checkout process for fraud prevention and PCI compliance purposes. These cookies are only active during the checkout flow and are not used for advertising.
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag, or any other advertising or social media tracking cookies. There are no third-party cookies on the BuildIQ platform other than those set by Stripe during checkout.
5. Managing and deleting cookies
You can control and manage cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling essential cookies (authentication cookies) will prevent you from logging in to BuildIQ. Disabling functional or analytics cookies will not affect core platform functionality.
How to manage cookies by browser
- Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Mozilla Firefox: Preferences → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Apple Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data
You can also clear all existing cookies at any time via your browser settings. This will log you out of any active BuildIQ session and reset your preferences.
6. Cookie consent
BuildIQ application (authenticated platform): The core BuildIQ application does not require a cookie banner. Essential cookies (authentication) are strictly necessary to use the service and are covered by the contractual necessity lawful basis. By creating an account and logging in, you acknowledge these cookies are required for the service to function.
Marketing website (buildiq.app): The marketing website uses minimal analytics cookies. We rely on a cookie notice displayed on first visit for analytics cookies. You can opt out at any time by disabling analytics cookies in your browser settings or by contacting us.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in the cookies we use, applicable regulations, or our practices. Updated policies will be posted at this URL with a revised effective date. For material changes that affect your rights or require new consent, we will notify you by email.
